At this stage the Irish Premiership is way ahead of the Proclaimers league, aside from Bert and Ernie. With all due respects, Sligo are a mid table team in Ireland.

Telling the opposition team the free kick requires a whistle, then allowing a goal ahead of it - then sending off the wrong player (prendergast). As a Sligo fan travelling from NI - we were the best team over 2 legs - period - no shocks - just a good team that plays for each other.

I heard that this is a shock result, I don't understand why it would be a shock as if Motherwell were placed in the leauge of Ireland premier they probaly finish mid table or possibly top four , same said for leauge of Ireland teams in the premier if Sligo went into the Scottish premier I believe they finish mid table , only difference between Scottish and Irish premier is Celtic and Rangers and let's face it , their far from amazing
Since the turn of the millennium there have been four meetings between SPL sides and league of Ireland sides all four have been won by league of Ireland sides. Sligo rovers are a fully professional team with a budget of 2 million pounds a year hardly the minnows the Scottish media were making out
It's disgraceful that so many Motherwell fans and Scottish football fans in general are so ignorant about the result. The Motherwell fans who traveled to the game actually gave a standing ovation to the Sligo team after the final whistle. Give credit where credit is due and be decent. You can say Sligo are a "shit team" all you want if it makes you feel better, 3-0 is all I see.

Mid table and sacked their manager because they were playing poorly. Lost to bottom placed UCD and lost their first choice goalkeeper to Oxford Utd. a few days before the first leg against Motherwell.

We Scots need to realise that, apart from Rangers and Celtic, the Scottish League is on a par with the League of Ireland, and places like Luxembourg, Malta, Latvia, Lithuania. That’s only the main stand. Licensed capacity is 3,900 seats. Record attendance was almost 14,000 when terraces were used.
3 League of Ireland clubs won in Europe this week...Republic not Nothern that is...standard is decent but ground facilities appart from a Dublin City Council owned Tallaght Stadium need to improve
Facilities are alright at some places. Sligo Showgrounds isn’t bad, Turner’s Cross is alright as well. Until attendances improve, there’s not enough money to do much with most stadiums.
Be aswell just giving the spfl 2 European football spots coz any more than that is just a waste and an embarrassment every time 😂🤦♂️
Guess it's down to Rangers to bail all these teams out with the coefficient as usual every season.

Scotland is 8th in the coefficient table and has full time teams. Ireland is 40th in the coefficient table and has part time teams. Bit of a difference there.

And Sligo, like the majority of sides in the LOI Premier Division, are a full time professional side. Scottish clubs have lost to LOI clubs in Europe in the last 3 meetings. Scottish clubs (old firm aside) also have a poorer record in European qualifying than LOI sides. The last time a non old firm team made the group stage was 2007. LOI sides have reached the group stages 3 times in the last decade.

I know Sligo Rovers are 23 games into their own league season but Motherwell are in serious trouble domestically if this is the standard they are setting, getting pumped over 2 legs by a mid-table League of Ireland side.

I feel sorry for the Motherwell lads who really make an effort to support their team. There is the group of about 100 or so young lads that get together for each game and make some noise, I think they even had a march before the home game. Its shite that for the last few seasons Scottish football has had to rely on on team to bring up the co-efficient 🔵 Would have been good to see the Well in group stages🏴

Jack, I am familiar with both leagues and for the life of me and I cannot understand why the Scottish media and Motherwell thought they were going walk over Sligo in the first place. There is little difference between the two leagues when you take out the Proclaimers from the Scottish league. Sligo are no champions in the making but they are a competent team who hold their own in the Irish Premiership. 3 of the 4 teams in Ireland have gone through to the 3rd round of the European Conference. They will probably go out next time, but it just should give you an indication.
Fair play to Sligo but Motherwell.....Absolute bloody embarrassment to Scottish football. Bloody disgrace.
